This is a language term that we often know in our environment. Indonesia are an archipelagic country with hundreds recorded of languages. Indonesia was formed hundreds of years ago, known as Nusantara. But before recognizing Indonesia now. Do you know the first language Indonesian?

PALLAWA is a derivative of Sanskrit.

The name Pallawa are taken from the Pallava Dynasty which once dominated South India in the 4th to 9th centuries AD. The dynasty embraced Jainism or a Dharmic religion. Dharma or dharmic spread to Southeast Asia across to Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia.

The archipelago is widely spread by Hindu-Buddhist religions which are also widely adhered to by local customs. Pallawa  often used in religious activities. Pallawa are a derivative of Sanskrit which was mostly used in the Old Indian kingdoms.

The Pallava letters are divided into two: Early of  pallawa and Advanced of Pallawa. Early Pallawa’s associated with the spread in South India and Sri Lanka in the 3rd to 5th centuries AD. Then further pallawa developed and were used by local residents in the 7th to 8th centuries AD accompanied by the spread of the religion, namely in the Sriwijaya Kingdom region, namely Sumatra.

The pallawa letters then changed to the Kawi letters, spreading in 760 AD as evidenced by inscriptions in Ancient Mataram, Kediri, Majapahit and Singasari. Meanwhile, the inscriptions from the Kanjuruhan and Ancient Mataram Kingdoms  Sanskrit..

Then in the 16th century various types of Pallawa script were formed which were known as follows:

·         Hanacaraka script: Often used in religious literature and translations of Sanskrit on palm leaves in Javanese.

·         Cacarakan script for writing in Sundanese.

·         Balinese script for writing in Balinese.

·         Sasak script for Lombok writing in Sasak language.

 

The Pallawa letters have a simple, nice and neat arrangement/line. Each syllable uses the vowel/a/. The letters do not use spaces and have 47 letters.
